BELLES AND BEAUS ACADEMY

Belles and Beaus Academy is a 12,900 square foot daycare facility. The owner asked for a design that would excite children each and every time they arrived while relating to the surrounding residential neighborhood.

Architectural Workshop's solution was to create a building with fundamental architectural shapes and primary colors. The gable ends and rounded "silo" in abstract form would have the appearance of being drawn by a child. To anchor the building and provide a stimulating feature for the children, the round activity room activity room is located at the corner of the street and parking entrance. The design scheme continues inside where each classroom is given its own identity through use of corresponding colors and shapes. Each classroom has direct access to the playground and pool area. The front entrance incorporates a sloped canopy to provide a covered entrance and protected waiting area for loading and unloading.

  • Crafted a kid-friendly design for a 220-student daycare center that relates to the adjacent elementary school and surrounding residential neighborhood

  • Included a castle-like, round activity room with an abundance of daylight for activities such as gymnastics, karate, music, etc.

  • Sustainable systems include enhanced mechanical systems and natural light throughout the building through interior clerestory windows

  • The building uses renewable, natural materials that provide cost savings to the owner

  • All interior finishes use non-toxic, recycled materials
